About Us
Cotton Cabin quilt shop is located in the historic river town of Dubuque, Iowa on Main Street in a quaint area that features River Lights Bookstore, Jitterz Coffee Shop and Yarn Soup Yarn Shop.
You’ll love the charm of our newly renovated building with its wooden floors and warm colors. You will find samples of quilts, table runners, wall hangings, bags, purses, aprons and stitchery samples in pillows and frames everywhere. We have wonderful wool table mats and much, much more. Kits are available for most of our samples. We also carry approximately 1500 bolts of fabric, and a large variety of notions, hand dyed wool and floss for wool appliqué and stitchery projects.
Why did we open a quilt shop?
I've been a quilter for 25 years and always thought that owning a quilt shop would be a dream. My thesis for my Communications degree while in college was a plan to own a quilt shop. Little did I know, an opportunity would present itself at about the same time that I was being down-sized from a job in the scientific industry. So, from the hectic daily schedules of working with scientists to hours spent with friends and familiar faces picking out fabric, resizing patterns, searching for new projects and sewing samples to intrique customers new and old, I think I've found my niche.
The Cotton Cabin Staff is made up of four employees as diverse as our customers with seasoned quilters andFlowered Hat Project crafters always willing to share experiences and talents. Even my husband Mike, can be found on a Saturday morning showing fabric to customers and helping select colors for their quilts.
Dubuque, Iowa was voted an All-American City in 2008 and is home to two casinos, quaint shopping areas, a fantastic Smithsonian River Museum, our historic incline cable car (one of thBear and Star Hanging Quilte few remaining in the US) and plenty of rolling hills with parks galore. We are located at the point where Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin come together.
Visitors can enjoy wine tasting at our two local winery’s, Friday night “All That Jazz” entertainment just a few blocks down the street from us during the summer months, festivals in the spring, summer and fall, and top notch entertainment brought in by the casinos year-round. And of course, there are plenty of great local restaurants to select from next store or the LMay Eatery and Salsas Mexican Restaurant or just down the street.
Dubuque, Iowa is a great place for quilters, their husbands and families. Our quilt shop is one of the best around and is sure to have the selection you are looking for. We’d love to show you around our shop! Better plan a few extra days to take in the many sites of Dubuque!
